Researchers have found that almost three-quarters of children with autism are impacted by high anxiety levels. Anxiety can impact a child's educational performance, affect recall of academic knowledge and result in poorer grades and overall school performance.
Further research is being undertaken to understand anxiety in children with autism in the school context, so that support strategies can be better identified to minimise the impact on education, learning and health.
