Purchasing resources

When considering the use and purchase of resources accessible via links in this section, it is important to consider the needs of the individual as well as the cost of such resources, both in monetary value, usage of space, time required for investigation, acquisition, adaption and implementation of the resource.

It is important when choosing a resource to consider:

  • the student's learning goals
  • the student's learning preferences (likes, dislikes, motivators, stresses, interests)
  • supports required
  • current resources available
  • the option to adapt current or available resources to meet the need
  • the option to purchase cheaper versions of the resource from large chain stores
  • the evidence supporting the use
  • the above-mentioned overall costs in time, space and money of the resource.

The Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) funding package provides funding for children aged less than six years diagnosed with ASD. If a child is eligible to access this package, it is possible to purchase resources through the funding according to the specific resources policy. The purchase of resources using HCWA funding must be discussed with your child's HCWA approved therapist or early intervention service provider.

The following list of suppliers and service providers do not necessarily have endorsement by the department, AEIOU or Autism Queensland, but is a useful starting point for families, educators and service providers to source and gain information regarding resources. The list is not exhaustive of the options available to families, therapists and educators in Queensland and is listed in alphabetical order only.

Some of the links listed below are to online sellers, some are to sites with free resources to download and some provide a mixture of both. If you require assistance in choosing a resource to ensure it is appropriate, it is highly recommended you consult widely with the student's support team (i.e. family, school and/or specialist staff, early childhood setting team, therapists and other health professionals).
