​​​​​​​The following resources were developed by the Autism Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) as part of a research project, led by the Queensland University of Technology, which focused on supporting educators' professional learning and promoting inclusive practices in schools for autistic learners.

There are 6 key guiding principles emerged from the research that support collaboration, consultation and partnerships within schools. The intention is for the videos below to be a resource for school staff, helping to translate the guiding principles into inclusive practices in schools​.​​

Supporting collaboration, consultation and participation in school communities

Introducing 6 guiding principles that support educators' professional learning and promote inclusive practices in schools for autistic learners using a collaborative consultative approach.

Guiding principle 1: Communication

Communication plays a significant role in supporting positive and sustainable partnerships and relationships in schools. Findings from the research project highlight the importance of considering how communication will be used to support sustainable connections between all partners.

Guiding principle 2: Promoting relationships

Building supportive and positive relationships with all partners is critical to the success of work in schools. Positive relationships need to be fostered and developed through communication and shared goals, with all key partners involved.

Duration: 11.50 minutes

Guiding principle 3: Establishing goals

Establishing shared and mutually agreed upon goals is important for the sustainability and capacity building of the partnership, ensuring everyone understands what the goal is and what role they play in reaching this goal.

Guiding principle 4: Capacity building and promoting understanding between partners

Successfully working together relies on all partners actively sharing their knowledge and perspectives using a solution-focused approach.

Guiding principle 5: Multidisciplinary, multi-tiered and multiple perspectives

Essential to a successful and trusting partnership is getting the right people involved at the right times.

Duration: 2.20 minutes

Guiding principle 6: Individualised and context specific

School environments differ. Partnerships work best when all partners are familiar with the specific school environment they are supporting.
